Understanding Veterans’ Needs

Kingston has a long history of association with the Canadian Armed Forces and military members, veterans, and their families are integral parts of our community. With all our therapists having lived and worked in Kingston for decades, we at Best Health have worked with many serving military members and veterans over the years. We are aware of the diversity of injuries/strains that can occur as a result of military service, many of which can be compounded by multiple occurrences over a career. This can result in arthritis, chronic soft tissue dysfunction. repetitive strain and persistent pain states, often involving more than one area or body part.

Our Focused Approach

At BHP, we have decades of experience working with a great variety of chronic musculoskeletal and pain issues.  We understand the influence of mental health concerns on physical health concerns and vice versa.  Our sensitivity to each individual’s’ needs helps to increase the effectiveness of treatments. We achieve this through providing a supportive environment, physically, socially and emotionally.

Our therapists are skilled at using nervous system calming tools such as acupuncture /acupressure and breathing exercises to enhance the effect of therapy. Treatment options and progressions only occur after discussion with you and when/if you are comfortable with what is proposed.

Therapists at BHP are skilled in the use of a very broad range of tools to help veterans improve their health status and recover from past injuries. These range from education and coaching about injury and recovery, to acupuncture, dry needling, US, TENS, LASER, soft tissue release techniques, to targeted exercise, including novel approaches that address the altered sensorimotor processing that can occur in persistent pain states.
